La Fuga was founded in 2007 by Ross Muir and Ian Holt. Having spent time living and racing in Italy and after participating in many Gran Fondo events, Ross and Ian decided to share their experience of cycling and their love of the landscapes and culture of Italy.
Ross Muir
Ross' first tour by bicycle was at the tender age of ten, on a family cycling holiday that saw the Muir clan ride the end to end in Ireland in seven days. That experience ignited Ross' passion for exploring new destinations by bicycle and sharing those experiences with others. As Ross entered the racing world, his tours became more focussed on pain rather than pleasure and saw Ross compete as far afield as South Africa and Australia. Success in the UK brought him to attention of foreign teams where he spent a year in Clermont Ferrand, France and a year in Treviso, Italy. During this time Ross had the priviledge to race and train beside some of the rising stars of cycling and triathlon including Frank Schleck and Stephen Bayliss. 2002 saw Ross proudly represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester where he competed on the road and in the velodrome.
A change of direction saw Ross spend four successful years working as an environmental consultant in the City of London. Cycling for Ross during this time became more of a hobby rather than an occupation but still saw him compete at National level in criterium and track racing. Ross now spends his time sharing his passion of cycling with guests of La Fuga.
Ian Holt
Ian’s passion for cycling was ignited by watching Stephen Roche win the 1987 Tour de France on TV at home in Shropshire. Although inspired by the excitement and energy of racing, cycling for Ian initially was a means of escape and exploration with school friends. At fourteen, Ian joined a club and competed in his first race. Success at schoolboy and junior level earned him GB selection, representing his country in several international races. Ian graduated to success in university championships followed by a move to an Italian elite team based in Tuscany. Racing in Italy was a real learning experience for Ian, competing week-in, week-out with names such as Bennati, Popovich, Bernucci, and Caruso.
After returning to the UK in 2003 Ian returned to his IT career with IBM in London as a Business Analyst and more recently a Technical Sales Specialist. His cycling efforts focussed on criterium and track races. Teamed up with Ross they formed a formidable partnership taking wins and podium places in National Circuit Series races with a career best win for Ian in the London GP in 2005. Ian now shares his love of Italy with La Fuga guests.
